Jeffrey mine

Two pictures of different side of the Jeffrey mine. This mine is 1500 feet deep!

To get to the mine first you have to be a member of the Asbestos mineral club, then you have a chance to get in this active chrysotile mine in one or two of the 6 trips organized by the club. When we arrived at the mine we are received by the comity of the club who give us all the security details and the minerals we might find today because of the area they lately blasted.

Then we take the bus to get to the blast area in search for garnets,here with my friend Raymond. In that mine you have to look in to the granit area to find cognac hessonite garnet and in the contact of serpentine and a very hard white rock to find grossular of any color from clear to green sometime associated with very nice green diopside.

There we are, on the pic you can easely see the contact of the white rock. In those white blocks there are veins with pocket or veins filled with green diopside and we were able to find some of the nicest pink garnet ever found in the last 10 years

These are some of the best that i have found that day, the first pic show more then 20 pink garnets completely clear sitting on perfect xtls of green diopside, the biggest garnet is 1cm and total matrix is 5x3,5cm. The second pic show the same habit approx.the same size too. And the last pic is a very nice specimen showing those garnet direct on the matrix with some minor diopside on the right, the biggest garnet is 1,5cm and total surface is 3x5cm.I can easely say that this was a very good day !
